A (not so) Short Article About Myself & the Nor Cal Outdoor Blog
Disclaimer - As this is my first "real article / blog post" on the Nor Cal Outdoor Blog, I'll warn you up front that this is really more like an Ice Breaker for me. So I'm just going to start putting thoughts into words, add a few images, and see where it goes from there. I realize this doesn't really fit into the whole Northern California Outdoor Adventure Category, so please feel free to skip on over to more relevant information if you like.
If at First, you don't Succeed, Try & Try Again
The Nor Cal Outdoor Blog is something that has been my obsession for many years.
In fact, I first attempted to create the Nor Cal Outdoor blog several years ago. Back when WordPress was not even an option.
I actually purchased a website building platform for a couple thousand dollars, and even went to a seminar to learn how to set it up.
I spent hundreds of hours over the next year or so putting together a decent (by the standards of the day) website. But I was limited in my tech skills and couldn’t quite seem to figure out what it takes to be considered “successful.”
In the end… I had tried, and eventually… I had failed.
Having come to the realization that I had failed to accomplish what I had set out to do, I gave up on it.
I didn’t give up on the idea altogether, I just had to put it on hold for a little bit.
All these years later, I still really don’t have much more than a clue, but I’ve spent a lot of time self learning about doing it. And with the WordPress platform being sooooo much better than what I had used previously, I believe I’m a little better equipped to take on this endeavor.
Besides, I’d rather give it another try and fail again, than look back years from now thinking I coulda, shoulda, woulda.Â
These Voices In My Head Just Won't Leave Me Alone!
“And I don’t mean like actual voices in my head telling me to do crazy things either – or maybe perhaps they really are?”
Over the past several years, I’ve had all these ideas running through my mind telling me I should try again.
But of course, having all these ideas of what I’d like to do with this blog is one thing, The challenge is going to be putting all those ideas together in a way that makes sense.
I guess the only way I will ever know, is if I just commit to doing it!
A Little About Me
I will try not bore you with too many details regarding my entire life story, but I feel like this would be a good place to share at least a little about myself.
So as you read on, I will attempt to paint a picture of who I am, and what it is I hope to accomplish by creating the Nor Cal Outdoor website..
Except for a brief relocation to Reno, Nevada in the mid 1980’s, Northern California has been my home my whole life.
Many of my fondest memories are rooted in my growing up in a tiny little town called Laytonville, located in Mendocino County, Northern California.
Growing up, I would spend my days after school hiking, hunting, fishing and exploring the hills, lakes, rivers and streams around my home.
I often reminisce about days spent Steelhead fishing with my Dad on the Eel River – back when there was a three fish limit.
Catching my first limit of Steelhead when I was about 10 years old is etched in my mind forever. Oh Man, what I wouldn’t do to be able to relive those days again!
The next several years of my youth were spent being obsessed with the anticipation of the fall rains and subsequent Steelhead fishing season!
Jump ahead a bunch of years, and I am still obsessed with Steelhead fishing. Only I haven’t been out on the river in an awfully long time.
I do find occasion to regularly participate in a couple of “other” activities though – like working at my small business, and working on my and my wife’s little half acre slice of heaven on earth.
And then of course, there’s all those times I get to spend more time Working!
I Want to Share My Passion for the Outdoors With Others
I have spent my entire life with a passion for the outdoors. In fact, up until just a few years ago, I was an avid hunter and (even if I have to say it myself), a pretty darned good fisherman!
That is… until I became a small business owner – and that my friend, is when things started to change for me. But that is a whole other topic I won’t go into here.
Suffice to say that small business ownership has severely limited my amount of free time to do the “more important” things in life.
Creating this blog as a means to share my passion for the outdoors with others, also forces me to get back to doing the things I love to do.
And I’m really looking forward to reconnecting with that guy I “used” to be!
My New Life Mission With the Nor Cal Outdoor Blog
Having made the decision to move forward with the Nor Cal Outdoor Blog – “I Aspire to Start Spending a Lot More Time Fishing, Camping, Kayaking and Recreating with Family and Good Friends”
In Conclusion...
In conclusion, I thank you for reading this, and want to let you know that I am dedicating myself to chasing after this dream.
I’m just getting started, so there’s not much to see here yet, but I assure you, it’s in the works!
As I develop this website, I promise to do my best to provide you with usable information that will help you to get out and create some of your own epic Outdoor Adventures in Northern California!
